JANUARY 2020
-Kyle Monfort reigned over a crazy final table that included Chuck Hill, Andy Simpson and Derek Siders among others. Kyle winning this tournament ultimately led to the entire world being shut down only 3 months later....no one was ever the same....MARCH 2022
-We were back baby with a bigger and better event/venue. In the midst of March Madness this final table created it's own mayhem. Mike Nicastro nursed a short stack and rode it all the way to a nice 5th place finish. Steady as always, Wade finished 4th for a nice score. The night grew late and Mike Kannal, Danny G and Matt Radcliffe split 3 ways to end the festivities.MARCH 2023
-Some new faces made their way to the tables and they showed out strong! Mark Tate made his 1st appearance at the new venue and won the whole damn thing (chopping with Nick Forster and Sean McGuire).Kevin Wharff and Jonny Cakes made final table appearances. Sean McGuire tallied his 2nd final table in as many years and will likely not be invited back :)
Another unbelievable tournament is in the books. What a ride this year was. We started with 21 runners and the action was hot and heavy from the start. There were 3 tables filled with gamblers and shouts of “all-in” and “call” rang consistently throughout the night. Back and forth the chip leads swung. Bud Holiga was the early executioner sending player after player to the rebuy desk. But when it really mattered and the money was on the line, it was Andy Simpson knocking out 2 runners to earn 2 bounties. Later in the night Mike Kannal recorded the 3rd bounty. The high hand jack pot got a workout often and early but ultimately it was Rich Scott who expertly hit QUAD AAAA and won $175.The bad beat of the night obviously goes to Chuck Hill. Tony Moore called Chuck’s all-in with a gut shot straight draw. Brian Kienle was also in the hand and made a tough lay down with top pair on the turn after Tony picked up a flush draw and shoved his stack all in. Tony was a robust 20% to win on the turn against Chuck’s made hand and BY GAWWWWD, he rivered a 5 of diamonds to complete his straight. LOL Sorry Charlie. The blinds got bigger, and stacks grew shorter, and a crew of diligent gamblers found themselves 8 handed at the final table for the 5 spots that would reward their patience.Mike Kannal was all but a footnote to the proceedings with 2 tables left, but thanks to some friendly dealing from Wade battled back from 3.5 big blinds to have another chance at glory.Andy took a big hit early on at the final table, flopping two pair against Bud’s flopped Broadway straight. After the cooler, Andy was barely hanging on to about 5 big blinds. It would have been easy for Andy to just put his chips in and take the loss, but Andy had other ideas.Mike K scored the first knock out when he busted fan favorite Bud Holiga with a turned nut flush against Bud’s top 2 pair. Bud couldn’t catch up on the river and bowed out in 8th. A wild hand that vaulted Mike into a commanding chip lead.Shockwaves reverberated throughout the table next when Nicastro was finally knocked out by Mike Kannal. Nicastro put up more than a valiant effort and just fell short of the money. Mike K. extended his chip lead….for now.Action was fast and furious on the bubble and Sean McGuire was the first to see his stack disappear as Mike Kannal played executioner once again and broke the money bubble eliminating Sean when his flush draw missed.Kevin, Simmy, Mike, Tony and Dan were officially in the money.Big hands flew back and forth and unfortunately it was T-Mo who bowed out in 5th place. Forced to put his stack in, Dan G held a dominating hand and sent Tony back to the East side with more than enough cash to cover his trip. Kudos Tony!Kevin was the next to fall as he couldn’t recover after Dan hit a set of 5’s to crack his pocket 9’s and cripple his stack. Kevin hung in for a while and admirably fell in 4th with Mike finishing the job Dan started.3 handed play lasted for a good bit. Mike Kannal had the chip lead for the most part but Andy and Dan would not go away. Andy doubled up and then Dan doubled up as well. Your gracious host chipped away and held the chip lead late. Well into the 3 handed battle it was decided that a chop was appropriate, and the game was ended. It was a memorable night of well-played poker, laughs and great company.Dan Mike and Andy WIN!
The 2025 GPI is in the books. We came, we ate, we drank and we sure as shit gambled. What a night! For the first time in 4 years the GPI crowned an outright winner.20 of the best to ever do it ended up creating a prize pool that topped $3K.That Aesop dude was on to something with the fable The Tortoise and the Hare. Slow and steady wins the race and so it was with the 2025 GPI. Llama (Logan) patiently played his cards and expertly picked his spots on his way to a title. Simmy picked up chips early and often and rode his wave to a runner up finish. The ESPN feature table was the place to be for action and early on it seemed like it would be the Mike Nicastro show. Depending on who had it, 2 pair was either a boost to your stack or the end of your night. But as chips come so they go and a huge hand early saw Simmy take the chip lead that he would ride to the final table. Big hands were hard to come by and Tom Rhoden put an early end to any hopes anyone had of winning the High Hand Jackpot when he drilled a Jack High STRAIGHT FLUSH. That monster was good for $155 so the first time GPI’er turned a profit.Apparently taking home the title wasn’t enough for Llama as he bagged 2 bounties with Justin taking the 3rd.With the free money spoken for it was time to earn your keep and the 7 players at the final table tried to do just that. There was a theme developing as Llama took out Kienle in 7th and then also dispatched Charlie Tillet in 6th as the bubble boy. Johnny Melaragno weaved his way through the night and finally fell in 5th place at the hands of Llama and was the 1st to make the money. Mark Tate made his way back to the final table and saw his run end in 4th place knocked out by Llama and his dominating Ace-Jack.Simmy and Dan had their work cut out for themselves with Llama holding 70% of the chips in play. Yours truly wouldn’t go quietly doubling through both players to get back in the game. After an hour of 3 handed play Ultimately my King-Ten couldn’t hold against Llama’s Queen-Jack. And when a Queen hit the flop and another Queen hit the turn my night was done.A deal was discussed to split the remaining prize money and Andy and Llama decided NO DEAL! Heads up play lasted 45 minutes and was a back and forth affair. A roller coaster of a battle saw Andy take the lead when his 9-9 outgunned Llama’s Ace-Queen. A 9 on the flop all but ended the hand. Llama kept his cool and battled back to ultimately eliminate his 6th player at the final table and take the title with an Ace-6 of diamonds vs . Simmy’s 8-7.A huge thank-you to Wade who dealt the final table and kept the game running smoothly. Thanks buddy! That wraps up another fantastic night. A huge thank-you to all of you. Having all of us together each year is a highlight for me and I can’t wait for next year!
